Day 14 - Thrifty Dreams

February 12, 2024

Those stories of people finding incredible lenses at outrageously bargain prices? I dream of that. I just want to grab me a Summicron for $5—is that too much to ask? Probably. Nonetheless, I try to pop into thrift stores every so often to see if I can find anything.

Shooting indoors, I am starting to find myself wanting a silent shutter. Even with a silent shutter, however, the simple act of raising your camera to your eye seems to draw more attention and break moments; this is the main reason I’m focused on improving my ability to shoot from the hip. I believe I’ve made some progress as it is becoming more familiar, but I look forward to becoming proficient and confident in my ability to frame a shot, nail exposure, and intentionally focus without needing to look through the viewfinder. #3 in the set above (crouched individual looking over a book) was shot like this.

A quick walk around afterwards:

I’m actually fairly pleased with the direction of these photos taken outside. Walking through the same neighbourhood often, it is rewarding to find new subjects, angles, and areas. On this day, I felt that I was able to see things differently, to embrace the mildly annoying drizzle. It is something I hope to train more.

Final shutter count: 7,960.
