Day 15 - Mr. Sushi

February 13, 2024

Day 15 was another wet and dreary day so I didn’t end up going out to shoot. Having this project pushes me to go out more often and there is a desire to shoot in all conditions, but there are still days I struggle to do so. Moreover, I go back and forth on whether it is worth it to push through. No concrete answer presumably, but I do go out the next few days despite the lack of light and light showers.

For today, I brought the camera out with me, but didn’t take many shots.

This is the camera I have been using for the short videos I have been sharing on Instagram, the Insta360 Go 3.

It’s a remarkably inconspicuous camera—so much so that I feel uncomfortably creepy at times. The video quality is nothing to write home about, but the convenience is a strong motivator to use it. I tend to use the camera separately from the Action Pod, either on the magnetic necklace or a magnetic bullhead mounted on my camera.

There is something oddly nice about using such poor quality video. It reminds me of older home videos and I find it a nice challenge to try to piece together videos despite the low quality. I find that beautiful visuals can sometimes be a crutch for me. In a way, it’s freeing.

When using the camera as a standalone unit, the battery life is also a somewhat welcome limitation. There is a perceived need to be intentional with the 30 minutes I have to record my POV shots and it fits nicely with the shorter walks I am taking on some days. Of course, on longer days, perhaps it is not all that helpful…or I need to reassess and/or improve the way I am approaching these videos. I still have not found out how to piece them together into longer form videos so I believe it is the latter.

Final shutter count: 7,967
