Day 12 - Practice
January 30, 2024
Though this is primarily a creative endeavour, increasing my daily activity has quickly become one of the central pursuits. Though one could argue that physical health is also a crucial component of anything creative, I would be remiss to act as though that was part of the initial rationale.
I was feeling myself becoming more stagnant, less active, less stimulated, ultimately unhealthier, however, so it is great to feel that slowly changing. The desire to make photos has been a strong motivator to go outside and I intend to repeat the same walking course multiple times throughout this project to document any changes. Of course, I would also like to take different routes and explore beyond the limitations I set for myself. Sounds grandiose, but in practice, it simply meant walking in the opposite direction this day. I walked to the library. That’s it!
Rain-season hit on the way back home so I only have photos from the walk there. I don’t think I’m happy with any of the photos today, but I’m happy with my progress. I am trying to master zone focusing, assessing proper exposure with just my eyes, and framing a 35mm field of view without needing to look through the viewfinder—all things that Julian from Day 11 pointed out as things to practice. These photos are the results of trying to shoot like that. So, while not great photos, I am happy to know that I am getting better at these technical skills.
The creative side of things, I am feeling a wall, but we will get more into that in a future post.
Side note: I cannot believe how much red and blue I am seeing everywhere. It’s not something I was aware of before starting this project.
Side side note: Leaving in a lot of the misses and purely practice shots such as the parking sign. I’ve still got quite a ways to go before I feel confident in the technical side of things.
Final shutter count: 7940
