Day 11 - Zone Julian

January 28, 2024

Another photowalk, this time with another friend I met through selling gear. Vancouver-based, commercial video and photography, Julian Fok: https://www.julianfok.com

Awesome friend that I always have great conversations with. Potentially worse GAS than I as well, which is a nice excuse I fall back on as needed.

Some snaps on the way to meeting him:

Started with brunch:

I began to pick Julian’s brain pretty much on sight (thanks man!). Got some great technical tips for practicing zone focus & shooting from the hip, focal length, rangefinder, etc., in addition to more philosophical insights that he has worked through in the recent months. Coming back from a workshop in Japan, Julian had a wealth of stories and reflections, all of which I feel lucky to hear. Would love to attend a few workshops in the future myself.

Tried shooting from the hip a lot/not using the viewfinder and some slow shutter madness that didn’t go as planned. Here are some shots with more misses than hits.

I think these would have to be my favourites from the day:

The rest (trigger-happy day):

Final shutter count: 7887
