Day 35 - Brentwood with Luke

May 9, 2024

It’s been a while, yikes! Have not been keeping up with the blog, but I have still been taking photos. Finally wrapped up the first zine, which was quite the learning curve. Posts on that to come soon.

In the meantime, I’d like to catch up a bit with the daily photos. I’ll probably be skipping days that were relatively uneventful.

Day 35, back in February. While waiting for my car maintenance to be completed, I met up with someone who is just getting into freelance videography and photography and wanted to pick my brain. It’s always nice to connect with someone newer to the space and I find myself always rooting for their success. You can check out Luke’s Instagram here: https://www.instagram.com/theraidedmedia/

It was a great day to look back on and I chuckle at how many times I emphasized the basics of everything. The more time I spend on photography and videography, the more I come to respect the fundamentals. Shutter speed, ISO, aperture. Lighting, composition, story. Cut, colour correction, appropriate colour grading. Professionalism and administrative workflow. Stylistic flair can come later and hopefully done tastefully.

So as much fun as I had hanging out and going for a quick photowalk, I am not sure if I contributed anything new or useful, which is fine I suppose. I find that somewhat amusing for some reason. Often, we expect people who have more experience than us in a specific industry, career, or simply life in general to possess transformative tips. Perhaps this is true in certain cases, but I suspect the answers we seek are often not as revolutionary or sexy as we would like them to be.

At any rate, here are some photos from the walk, taken with the Voigtlander 35mm f2 Ultron on the Leica M-P 240.

Always appreciative of your time,

-J
