Day 41 - A Walk Up Lonsdale
July 22, 2024
This day, I walked up a part of Lonsdale Avenue in North Vancouver.
I think I understand why people find Vancouver relatively boring to shoot compared to places such as New York (never been to New York so can’t really comment). It’s not as dense and there are fewer ‘characters’ around. When you stray from the downtown core, then there is even less to shoot. If there is one thing this project has taught me, however, is the importance of simply getting out. I am not seeking anything grandiose or groundbreaking. I just want to use my camera, get better at photography, and document what I can learn from life by living life.
Walking ‘simple’ streets such as these is a humbling and calming experience. I learn just how limited my photography skills are but also learn of my search for calm images with pockets of loneliness. I also still run into interesting people such as this gentleman playing the bagpipes in the middle of a park.
These images were actually taken months ago—I am playing catch up now that I have more time. I am glad for this buffer in some ways as it is refreshing to revisit these images and observe what thoughts they spark.
Final shutter count: 9,386
Images taken on Leica M-P Typ 240 & Voigtlander 35mm f2 Ultron. Edited in Lightroom.
